Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signs open-carry gun bill into law

May 16--Oklahoma will become the 25th state to allow the open carrying of handguns.
Gov. Mary Fallin signed into law Tuesday a measure that allows Oklahomans to openly carry handguns.

The measure, Senate Bill 1733, allows those who are licensed to carry a firearm under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act a choice: to openly carry a weapon or conceal it.
It also allows a property owner to openly carry a handgun on his or her land. No concealed carry permit would be required.

To receive a license under the Oklahoma Self Defense Act, applicants must take a firearms safety and training course and submit to a background check by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Those convicted of felonies and certain misdemeanors may not receive a handgun license.

The measure takes effect Nov. 1.
Oklahoma is the 25th state with either "permissive open carry" laws, which means no permit required, or "licensed open carry," which requires a permit. Oklahoma now joins Utah, North Dakota, Minnesota,, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Massachusetts as a "licensed open carry" state.

"As a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and a gun owner myself, I'm happy to sign this bill into law and grant law-abiding citizens the ability to openly carry firearms," Fallin said.
"Senate Bill 1733 sends a strong message that Oklahoma values the rights of its citizens to defend themselves, their family and their property. It does so in a responsible way, by requiring those citizens who choose to 'open carry' to undergo both firearms training and a background check."
Under the measure, businesses may continue to prohibit firearms to be carried on their premises. SB 1733 prohibits carrying firearms on properties owned or leased by the city, state or federal government, at corrections facilities, in schools or college campuses, liquor stores and at sports arenas during sporting events.

The measure won strong support from the Legislature. The House of Representatives passed it 85-3 and it passed the Senate 33-10
.
Rep. Emily Virgin, one of three House Democrats to vote against SB 1733, said the state's concealed-carry system works well. Virgin, D-Norman, said local law enforcement officers have told her they are concerned about public safety.

"They've expressed concerns about approaching a crime scene where multiple people are carrying guns openly and they're not sure who is the shooter or who is the quote-unquote bad guy," she said.
Sen. Anthony Sykes, R-Moore, author of SB 1733, said the measure contains safeguards.

"I'm happy to say that Oklahomans will be able to display their firearms openly if they so choose," he said.

****My comment is...YEAH!!! NOW TEXAS NEEDS TO DO THE SAME THING!!!!!
We can carry our guns on our own property, but we can not openly carry our guns. (we do have gun permits in Texas) With things getting and have gotten the way they are, we need to be able to protect our self!
It is really so sad with so many of the departments of the judicial system that are sworn to serve and protect us (such as police, sheriff, fbi etc;) are now worse than ever before...just out for their selves!!!! I say this with a very heavy heart, but none the less is so very true! The proof is out for all to see and hear every day. With that said, I am not trying to take away from the HONEST ONES that are trying very hard every day to do the best they can for the citizens...there are still a few out there that still believe in being honest and doing the right thing, but they are getting far and few between!!!!!
We the people need to be able to protect our selves, and I don't mean go gun totting crazy either...but
to be and act responsibly, yet have the opportunity to be able to protect our selves if needed. The awful thing is that it is getting more necessary every day!
~~~But with the type of president that the USA has right now, more and more judges (highest level to the lowest level) along with  so many more of the politicians that are openly such lairs, thevies, having no respect for anyone not even theirselves and out for number one...you can't expect but for it to flood down into the other areas of any and all of not just the judical system, but into all of the systems of any type of our government!
OUR GOVERNMENT HAS GOTTEN SO CORRUPT, AND WHAT IS SO BAD IT'S NOT JUST IN ONE CERTAIN AREA ANY LONGER IT IS ALL THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITES STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!
Lakota Buffalo Ranch owner Arby Little Soldier said he and his wife returned from out of town to find the calf, considered sacred by some in the Native American community, killed and skinned. The next day its mother was also found dead.
The Hunt County Sheriff's Department is among several agencies investigating the gruesome death of a rare white buffalo, born nearly a year ago on a ranch near Greenville.
Lakota Buffalo Ranch owner Arby Little Soldier said he and his wife returned from out of town to find the calf, considered sacred by some in the Native American community, killed and skinned. The next day its mother was also found dead.
The non-albino white buffalo was named Lightning Medicine Cloud in a special ceremony last summer. The chance of a white buffalo birth is said to be 1 in 10 million.
"My people – my brothers, my sisters – are hurt for what has happened here at this ranch," Little Soldier said. "You don't think things like this are going to happen to such a sacred animal, a sacred family."
Sheriff Randy Meeks said he was notified of the crime by Texas Parks and Wildlife. His office is investigating with the help of the Department of Homeland Security and the National Indian Council.
He wouldn't reveal details surrounding the investigation, saying he is ever mindful of the significance of rituals and order in the tribe.
"Everything we did, we made a request and made sure it was fine with them out of respect for the tribal council," Meeks said.
Little Soldier said the animal was more than just a symbol of hope, one who's legend will live strong at the Lakota ranch.
"He was the hope of all nations," he said. "You have taken the inner spirituality. You tried to stop what we're bringing back to ya'll, but you just opened the doors to release the message to all people."
He hopes to bury Lightning Medicine Cloud with his mother and father along a tree line. The calf's father was struck by lightning about a month ago
This is so very sad and heart breaking! I do hope the person or persons that are responsible for this (that did this terrible thing) are brought to JUSTICE WITH  THE MAX!!!!!!!!
Things getting back to normal...SLOWLY!!
Sorry for not updating sooner, I know it has been a while but so much has gone on and happened
in my life (so to speak) for the last while, I am still trying to find a way back.
1st off THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU THAT HAS PRAYED AND THAT ARE STILL PRAYING FOR MEMBERS IN MY FAMILY!! The prayers have been tremendous and all of the prayer lists we've been put on is out of site...I can't thank each of you enough for your prayers! GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!!!!!
2nd for those that don't know what I'm talking about we found out my dad has cancer in his
pancreas and lower stomach, we've made several trips back and forth to hospital for test and Dr.
visits. They aren't going to do anything because of dad's age and health problems...not to mention
dad said he was through with more surgeries. So it is suppose to be a slow growing type of
cancer, at this point all we can do is wait and see.
Then one of my g.daughter's boyfriend had an accident, he was cutting trees down and one fell
on him hitting him in the head. Broke every bone in face and had serve concision. Has had three surgeries and will need more. Was in icu for wks, but is now home and is doing better.
My oldest g.daughter gave birth to a sweet baby girl the 13th of this month.(Very high risk pregnancy) this was her second child. After delivery she started having problems and was kept in hospital for a extra day or so. Then sent home, the next night had to be rushed back to hospital because of heart failure, and was in icu for several says. It has been critical for her most of the time but she is now home and the Dr. said it would be a very long and slow process for her.
My mother has had several TIA's, which for those of you that aren't familiar with that term...it is mini strokes.
(Either a few or a cluster of mini strokes.)
I will be adding info about tia's to my other blog if anyone wants to check it out.
Thank you each one of you again, I greatly appreciate everything so much!
